Course Objectives

This training is essential to equip care personnel the skills to provide care and assistance in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).

 

Course Content :
1. Engage Seniors in Carrying Out Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)

– Distinguish the different types of enhanced biological needs of seniors in ADLs, such as functionality of the nervous, digestion, urinary, skeletal, immune and integument systems.

– Recognise the common chronic health conditions afflicting the seniors such as those that are affecting the nervous, respiratory, immune, endocrine, cardio-vascular, urinary, digestive systems.

– Comprehend the factors to consider when carrying out the ADLs to seniors such as safety, privacy and preference of the seniors, their health conditions and medications.

– Grasp the regulatory requirements and guidelines in assisting seniors with chronic and acute conditions such as MOH, first aid, National Resuscitation Council, NCSS service standard framework.

 

 

2. Prepare Seniors in Carrying Out Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)

– Prepare various types of mobility, feeding, hygiene, elimination tools and equipment and how to assist the seniors based on the care plans.

– Comprehend the various ways to ensure clients’ privacy and dignity, such as taking into the seniors’ preferences and environment.

-Apply the ways to prepare ADLs for seniors according to care plans.

 

 

3. Demonstrate Care & Assistance in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)

– Demonstrate and carry out the ADLs to the seniors in accordance to the established organizational guidelines seen in caring for acute and chronic conditions.

– Take appropriate actions to ensure senior’s privacy and dignity is protected while carrying out ADLs.

– Apply effective principles communication skills, removing barriers to communication when carrying out ADLs to the seniors.

– Dispose waste in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements and guidelines when carrying out ADLs

 

 

4. Respond to Emergencies and Report Abnormalities

– Respond to emergencies according to organizational standard operating procedures (SOPs) for recording and reporting ADLs.

– Take appropriate actions to report abnormalities such as breathlessness, chest pains, heart attacks, paralysis, strike fracture or gastric bleeding in client’s conditions.

– Apply first aid and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) by comprehending the safety precautions, operating mode, infection control procedures when operating AEDs.
